This project was completed as a Design/Build site and building package for drone-based testing and certification ventures. The site utilities included a pump station, force main, 3-phase electrical service, and new well. The site was improved by engineered soil cement implementation, and new paving for the taxiway extension to access the new hangar. The new building with 34’ eave height was fitted out with interior offices, kitchenette, bathrooms, meeting, and future drone control rooms, as well as mezzanines. The aviation-grade epoxy floor was installed to enhance the serviceability of the building. The owner also commissioned Harper & Sons to repair and re-erect a steel-frame control tower that had been relocated from elsewhere at the Airport, with AWOS sensors and aircraft lighting. The primary challenge was receiving and erecting the 80’ wide bi-folding hangar door. This installation went smoothly, and the resulting opening will allow flexibility for the hangar to be used for aircraft of many sizes for years to come.
